IE(I) meet at Hyderabad

 Interactive Session for Chairmen and Honorary Secretaries of IE(I) State & Local Centres held at Engineering Staff College of India Hyderabad February 19th, 2017

It has been a great experience to meet Prof. D.N.Reddy Director ESCI (Former Vice Chancellor JNTUH), Maj Gen S Bhattacharya, VSM (Retd) Secretary and Director General, IEI Kolkata along with over 70 delegates comprising of Chairmen and Honorary Secretaries of the State and Local Centres of IEI all over India in an interactive session on 19 February 2017 at ESCI Hyderabad.

The conference started with Inaugural Session at 1005 hrs, About ESCI by DG, ESCI and the Overview by SDG

The Technical Session covered the presentations pertaining to Bye-Laws & Regulations, Technical Matters, Membership Matters, EEA Matters, followed by discussions on each issue separately.

Next Finance SDG presented Administration Matters, Parameters on Best Centre Awards, Election matters followed by discussions on each issue separately.

The Conference ended with vote of thanks with a group photograph.

 Engineering Staff College of India Hyderabad

GENESIS: The world’s largest multi-disciplinary engineering professional body “The Institution of Engineers (Inia)” was established in the year 1920. It was incorporated by the Royal Charter of England in 1935. In turn, the Institution of Engineers (india) established the Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) in October 1981 in Hyderabad in the then united Andhra Pradesh and present Telengana State.

PHILOSOPHY:The primary objectives of the ESCI are to impart need based continuing professional development training, consultancy, technical services, academics and research & development in all disciplines of Engineering & Technology and Management.

ESCI’s operations are firmly directed to act as a bridge between academic institutions, industry and R&D. The Institute also plays the role of a catalyst in transferring knowledge and skills from veterans to young professionals who have stepped into the industry directly from academics.

VISION: To position ESCI as an outstanding provider of continuously evolving Global Market Responsive trained professionals in the field of Engineering and Technology, Techno-management, Research, Development Engineers, D&E) and techno-management professionals dedicated for excellence to deliver innovative solutions that will improve in all sectors of the economy.

MISSION: To provide qualitative education, training and applied research in the fields of technology and management. To assist the engineering fraternity to be innovative and advanced to meet the challenges in the unbounded world of tomorrow and to be the front line interface between academia, research, industry and other sectors in advanced Engineering/Technological application and Key enabler in fostering High and Thrust area programmes.

 

FROM DIRECTOR’S DESK

As the constituent organ of the Institution of the Engineers (India), the Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) is at the forefront in professional development of engineers in both core engineering disciplines and also interdisciplinary domains such as climate change, quality management, intelligent transportation, renewable energy and water resources management. Recent programs of ESCI address emerging areas such as additive manufacturing, information security, unmanned autonomous vehicles, engineering analysis and simulation.

ESCI is also supporting technical universities and engineering colleges through programs that focus on accreditation and assessment protocols, proficiency development for TEQIP institutions and employability enhancement of engineering graduates. Eminent engineers, scientists, industry leaders, IE (I) council members and academicians who serve as empanelled experts and adjunct faculty of ESCI enrich these programs through sharing of their professional insights.

 

Recently ESCI received affiliations from various skill development councils of NSDC. ESCI also entered into MOU with IE (I) Himachal Pradesh Centre and other engineering institutions to offer training and skill development programs in various centres. By setting up well-equipped laboratories in core engineering disciplines, ESCI looks forward to fulfilling the training needs of AMIE graduates and other young engineers who need industry-orientation. Our engineering enterprises and industries need skilled engineers for capacity enhancement and ESCI’s programs are poised to make significant contribution towards this cause of immense value to the nation building.

 

Director’s Profile

Prof. DN Reddy

Prof. DN Reddy is currently the Vice Chairman, Governing Council and Director, Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), He is also Member, UGC and Chairman, Appellate Committee, NBA.

Prof. Reddy has served as Chairman, Recruitment & Assessment Centre, DRDO, Min. of Defence during Jun 2012 – Jun 2015. He has significantly contributed in DRDO in the selection and career growth of Scientists as Chairman RAC. He was Vice-Chancellor, JNT University Hyderabad during 2008-2011 and also has been In-charge Vice Chancellor of Osmania University during Feb – July 2011.

Prior to this, he has contributed immensely in the area of academic planning and research as Principal, University College of Engineering, Osmania University for nearly eight years, Dean Faculty of Engineering for two years and also as the Founder Director, Centre for Energy Technology, Osmania University for promoting Renewable Energy Technologies. He is also helping the technical education in the country as Member of UGC and AICTE.

 

Prof. Reddy has been bestowed with numerous awards and honours for recognition of his intellectual capability, immense contribution in the field of Engineering by Eminent Engineer National Award from Institution of Engineers, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (ISTE) National Award for best Engineering College Principal; Vijaya Ratna Award and Certificate of Excellence. Best Mechanical Engineer Award by the Institution of Engineers, Sarvapally Radhakrishnan Award for Academic Excellence.

 

Prof Reddy has widely travelled in India and abroad. He has supervised 15 Ph.D’s besides having 90 publications.

Prof. Reddy is having wide experience in Accreditation of Programmes, Institutions, Universities in India and associated with NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council), Govt. of India, ISO 9001 certification and also accreditation of programmes following criteria of NBA / ABET

 

CONSULTANCY

ESCI provides consultancy services to suit the requirements of clients in all engineering and management disciplines. ESCI’s group of thoroughbred consultants with their proven expertise executes these assignments and co-opts experts as necessary. ESCI provides consultancy in NABL Accreditation (ISO 17025:2005) for testing and calibration laboratory. Presently ESCI is providing consultancy to Chemical Testing Laboratory, Nuclear Fuel Complex, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.

AP Agros has utilized the services of ESCI for setting up of Permanent Farm Mechanisation Display Centres in 11 Districts of AP and in Construction of Administrative Office Building at Road No. 10, Banjara Hills. AP Forest Department has also utilized the services of ESCI for Quality Assurance and Supervision for construction of Protection Wall and Residential quarters.

School Of Post Graduate Studies

Post Graduate Diploma in Infrastructure Management: (PGDM-IM)

ESCI – SPGS conducts AICTE approved two year full time Post – Graduate Diploma programme in Infrastructure Management, covering the areas of Power & Energy, Transport, Telecommunications, Civil Constructions, Water Resources and Urban Development. Objectives of this programme is to develop a cadre of Techno Managers by enhancing the managerial skills among engineers to meet the requirements of fast growing infrastructure sector in the country.

 

Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)

Based upon its track record, AICTE has approved commencement of another management programme. Two years full time PGDM with specialization in Finance, HRM, Marketing or Operation is open to graduates all streams provided they meet minimum admission criteria. This course aims at students acquiring appropriate skills in latest concepts of management, industry requirement and international standards to enter the global market to meet the 21st century challenges.

Welcome to School of Post Graduate Studies

School of Post Graduate Studies (SPGS), a part of Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), was established in 2008 to deliver world class management education. In the last 30 years, ESCI, a non-profit educational society, has emerged as a leader in imparting training and education to working professionals in frontier areas of engineering and management fields. By leveraging this expertise of ESCI, SPGS initially launched a two-year full time AICTE approved PGDM-IM program exclusively for engineers in the light of growing importance for infrastructure sector. The program PGDM in Infrastructure Management was a unique program taken up by SPGS to nurture techno-management professionals in power, civil, telecom and transportation sectors. To groom the graduates to make a better world, SPGS also started a two year AICTE approved PGDM program for graduates with various specializations including Marketing, Human Resource, Finance, Operations and Telecom & IT. International School of Telecom and Technology Management ( ISTTM ) is industry integrated partner for PGDM-Telecom & IT elective .

 

SPGS makes use of ESCI’s international and national collaborations to shape a better career for its students. QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP

01) Fellows: Every candidate for election as a Fellow or for transfer to the class of Fellows shall satisfy the Council that he possesses the following qualifications:

(i) Age: He shall have attained the age of forty years on the date of his application for election or transfer.

(ii) Occupation: He shall be engaged in the profession of engineering in a position of high responsibility or shall have retired from the profession after having held, before his application for election or transfer, a position of high responsibility.

(iii) Attainments: He shall either be a Member or shall have fulfilled the conditions necessary for Membership; and he shall have had at least fifteen years employment in the aggregate in a position of responsibility in the design or execution of important engineering works. For the purpose of this Bye-Law, employment as a senior member of the engineering staff in an engineering college or institute which has regular courses of study leading to an educational qualification recognised by the Council as exempting from Sections A and B of 14 the Institution Examinations or employment in a responsible position on important engineering research may be accepted by the Council in place of employment in the design or execution of important engineering works.

02) Members: Every candidate for election as a Member or for transfer to the class of Members shall satisfy the Council that he possesses the following qualifications:

(i) Age: He shall have attained the age of thirty years on the date of his application for election or transfer.

(ii) Occupation: He shall have been engaged in a position of responsibility in the design and execution or operation of engineering works. For the purpose of this Bye-Law, employment as a teacher of engineering or in a likewise capacity in an engineering college or institute which has regular courses of study leading to an educational qualification recognised by the Council or employment in engineering research may be accepted by the Council in place of employment in the design and execution or operation of engineering works. At the discretion of the Council, occupation may also include teaching an engineering subject in an institute/ college which does not confer/ award degree in engineering.

(iii) Examination: He shall have passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations prescribed by the Council or possesses an educational qualification recognised by the Council as exempting there from.

(iv) Training: He shall have received engineering training in a regular course of study in an engineering college or institute leading to an educational qualification recognised by the Council as exempting from Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations or as a pupil or apprentice or assistant in an engineering office or works as would provide him with engineering training to the satisfaction of the Council.

(v) Experience: He shall have had further at least eight years professional engineering experience in a position of responsibility. In the case of a candidate who has passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations, the Council may, at its discretion, take into account periods of responsible employment prior to his passing Section B.

03)  Associate Members: Every candidate for election as an Associate Member or for transfer to the class of Associate Members shall satisfy the Council that he possesses the following qualifications:

(i) Age: He shall have attained the age of twenty-one years on the date of his application for election or transfer.

(ii) Occupation: He shall be engaged / shall have been engaged in the design or execution or operation of engineering works. For the purpose of this Bye-Law, employment as a teacher of engineering or in a likewise capacity in an engineering college or institute which has regular courses of study leading to an educational qualification recognised by the Council or employment in an engineering research may be accepted by the Council in place of employment in the design or execution or operation of engineering works. At the discretion of the Council, occupation may also include teaching an engineering subject in an institute / college which does not confer / award degree in engineering.

(iii) Examination: He shall have passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations prescribed by the Council or possesses an educational qualification recognised by the Council as exempting there from.

(iv) Training: He shall have received engineering training in a regular course of study in an engineering college or institute leading to an educational qualification recognised by the Council as exempting from Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations, or as a pupil or apprentice or assistant in an engineering office or works as would provide him with engineering training to the satisfaction of the Council. 50. The existing Associates as on December 02, 2012 shall be automatically transferred or enrolled as Associate Members (AMIE).

04) Student Members: Every candidate for election as a Student Member shall satisfy the Council that he is perusing a course of education leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent as exempting from Sections A & B of the Institution Examinations.

Note: The Student Member will enjoy all the benefits and rights of Corporate Members except that they shall not have voting rights and shall not hold any elected office of the Institution.

05) Member Technologists: Every candidate for election as a Member Technologist shall satisfy the Council that he possesses the following qualifications:

(i) Age: He shall have attained the age of thirty two years on the date of his application for election or transfer.

(ii) Occupation: He shall have been engaged in engineering or industrial profession at least for a period of ten years in a position of responsibility to the satisfaction of the Council.

(iii) Qualification: He shall have passed B.Sc degree in Applied Science or B.Sc with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and Postgraduate degree in Applied Science / Technology / Computer Science / Computer Application or equivalent.

 Note: The Member Technologists will enjoy all the benefits and rights of Corporate Members except that they shall not have voting rights and shall not hold any elected office of the Institution.

06) Associate Member Technologists: Every candidate for election as an Associate Member Technologist shall satisfy the Council that he possesses the following qualifications:

(i) Age: He shall have attained the age of twenty six years on the date of his application for election.

(ii) Occupation: He shall have engaged in engineering or industrial profession at least for a period of five years and shall, in the opinion of the Council, be making satisfactory progress in a position of responsibility.

 (iii) Qualification: He shall have passed B.Sc degree in Applied Science or B.Sc with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and Postgraduate degree in Applied Science / Technology / Computer Science / Computer Application or equivalent.

Note: The Associate Member Technologists will enjoy all the benefits and rights of Corporate Members except that they shall not have voting rights and shall not hold any elected office of the Institution.

07) Senior Technician Members: Every candidate for election as a Senior Technician Member or for transfer from Technician Member to Senior Technician Member shall satisfy the Council that he possesses the following qualifications:

(i) Age: He shall have attained the age of eighteen years on the date of his application for election or transfer.

(ii) Examination: He shall have passed (a) either accredited diploma examination in engineering or technology or its equivalent as recognised by the Council, or (b) such other examination recognised by the Council as exempting from passing Section A of the Institution Examination in non-diploma stream. Technician Members : Every candidate for election as a Technician Member shall satisfy the Council that he possesses the following qualifications:

(i) Age: He shall have attained the age of seventeen years on the date of his application for election.

(ii) Examination: He shall possess an educational qualification recognised by the Council.

08) Institutional Members: The Council may, at its discretion, attach to the Institution as an Institutional Member any Public or Local Body, Registered Company or Firm, or an individual who may desire to be so attached.
